BIBLE
He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust. Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence. He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler. Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day; Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday. ...
There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling. For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.
(Psalms 91:1–6, 10, 11)
¶ And Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit into Galilee: and there went out a fame of him through all the region round about. ...
... ¶ And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and, as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and stood up for to read. And there was delivered unto him the book of the prophet Esaias. And when he had opened the book, he found the place where it was written, The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, To preach the acceptable year of the Lord. And he closed the book, and he gave it again to the minister, and sat down. And the eyes of all them that were in the synagogue were fastened on him. And he began to say unto them, This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears. And all bare him witness, and wondered at the gracious words which proceeded out of his mouth. And they said, Is not this Joseph’s son? And he said unto them, Ye will surely say unto me this proverb, Physician, heal thyself: whatsoever we have heard done in Capernaum, do also here in thy country. And he said, Verily I say unto you, No prophet is accepted in his own country. But I tell you of a truth, many widows were in Israel in the days of Elias, when the heaven was shut up three years and six months, when great famine was throughout all the land; But unto none of them was Elias sent, save unto Sarepta, a city of Sidon, unto a woman that was a widow. And many lepers were in Israel in the time of Eliseus the prophet; and none of them was cleansed, saving Naaman the Syrian. And all they in the synagogue, when they heard these things, were filled with wrath, And rose up, and thrust him out of the city, and led him unto the brow of the hill whereon their city was built, that they might cast him down headlong. But he passing through the midst of them went his way,
(Luke 4:14, 16–30)
... The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; The God of my rock; in him will I trust: he is my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower, and my refuge, my saviour; thou savest me from violence. I will call on the LORD, who is worthy to be praised: so shall I be saved from mine enemies.
(II Samuel 22:2–4 The)
Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, ...
(Deuteronomy 31:6 (to 2nd ,))
... for the LORD thy God, he it is that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.
(Deuteronomy 31:6 for)
And the word of the Lord was published throughout all the region. But the Jews stirred up the devout and honourable women, and the chief men of the city, and raised persecution against Paul and Barnabas, and expelled them out of their coasts. But they shook off the dust of their feet against them, and came unto Iconium. And the disciples were filled with joy, and with the Holy Ghost.
(Acts 13:49–52)
And it came to pass in Iconium, that they went both together into the synagogue of the Jews, and so spake, that a great multitude both of the Jews and also of the Greeks believed. But the unbelieving Jews stirred up the Gentiles, and made their minds evil affected against the brethren. Long time therefore abode they speaking boldly in the Lord, which gave testimony unto the word of his grace, and granted signs and wonders to be done by their hands. But the multitude of the city was divided: and part held with the Jews, and part with the apostles. And when there was an assault made both of the Gentiles, and also of the Jews with their rulers, to use them despitefully, and to stone them, They were ware of it, and fled unto Lystra and Derbe, cities of Lycaonia, and unto the region that lieth round about: And there they preached the gospel.
(Acts 14:1–7)
¶ If thou seest the oppression of the poor, and violent perverting of judgment and justice in a province, marvel not at the matter: for he that is higher than the highest regardeth; and there be higher than they.
(Ecclesiastes 5:8)
... thou, O LORD, art a shield for me; my glory, and the lifter up of mine head. I cried unto the LORD with my voice, and he heard me out of his holy hill. ...
I will not be afraid of ten thousands of people, that have set themselves against me round about.
(Psalms 3:3 thou, 4 (to 1st .), 6)
The LORD liveth; and blessed be my rock; and exalted be the God of the rock of my salvation. ...
... that bringeth me forth from mine enemies: thou also hast lifted me up on high above them that rose up against me: thou hast delivered me from the violent man. Therefore I will give thanks unto thee, O LORD, among the heathen, and I will sing praises unto thy name.

SCIENCE & HEALTH
The history of Christianity furnishes sublime proofs of the supporting influence and protecting power bestowed on man by his heavenly Father, omnipotent Mind, who gives man faith and understanding whereby to defend himself, not only from temptation, but from bodily suffering.
The Christian martyrs were prophets of Christian Science. Through the uplifting and consecrating power of divine Truth, they obtained a victory over the corporeal senses, a victory which Science alone can explain.
(Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, Mary Baker Eddy, pp. 387:27–4)
Mankind must learn that evil is not power. Its so-called despotism is but a phase of nothingness. Christian Science despoils the kingdom of evil, and pre-eminently promotes affection and virtue in families and therefore in the community.
(Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, Mary Baker Eddy, pp. 102:30–2)
Evil thoughts and aims reach no farther and do no more harm than one’s belief permits. Evil thoughts, lusts, and malicious purposes cannot go forth, like wandering pollen, from one human mind to another, finding unsuspected lodgment, if virtue and truth build a strong defence.
(Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, Mary Baker Eddy, pp. 234:31–3)
The Christianly scientific man reflects the divine law, thus becoming a law unto himself. He does violence to no man. Neither is he a false accuser. The Christian Scientist wisely shapes his course, and is honest and consistent in following the leadings of divine Mind. He must prove, through living as well as healing and teaching, that Christ’s way is the only one by which mortals are radically saved from sin and sickness.
(Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, Mary Baker Eddy, p. 458:23)
Man’s rights are invaded when the divine order is interfered with, and the mental trespasser incurs the divine penalty due this crime.
(Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, Mary Baker Eddy, p. 106:12)
Whoever uses his developed mental powers like an escaped felon to commit fresh atrocities as opportunity occurs is never safe. God will arrest him. Divine justice will manacle him. His sins will be millstones about his neck, weighing him down to the depths of ignominy and death. The aggravation of error foretells its doom, ...
(Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, Mary Baker Eddy, p. 105:22–28 (to ,))
Tyranny, intolerance, and bloodshed, wherever found, arise from the belief that the infinite is formed after the pattern of mortal personality, passion, and impulse.
(Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, Mary Baker Eddy, p. 94:14)
The truths of immortal Mind sustain man, and they annihilate the fables of mortal mind, ...
(Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, Mary Baker Eddy, p. 103:25–26 (to ,))
Courts and juries judge and sentence mortals in order to restrain crime, to prevent deeds of violence or to punish them. To say that these tribunals have no jurisdiction over the carnal or mortal mind, would be to contradict precedent and to admit that the power of human law is restricted to matter, while mortal mind, evil, which is the real outlaw, defies justice and is recommended to mercy. Can matter commit a crime? Can matter be punished? Can you separate the mentality from the body over which courts hold jurisdiction? Mortal mind, not matter, is the criminal in every case; and human law rightly estimates crime, and courts reasonably pass sentence, according to the motive.
(Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, Mary Baker Eddy, p. 105:3)
The wrong done another reacts most heavily against one’s self. Right adjusts the balance sooner or later. Think it “easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle,” than for you to benefit yourself by injuring others.
(Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, Mary Baker Eddy, p. 449:7–11)
God gives the lesser idea of Himself for a link to the greater, and in return, the higher always protects the lower. The rich in spirit help the poor in one grand brotherhood, all having the same Principle, or Father; and blessed is that man who seeth his brother’s need and supplieth it, seeking his own in another’s good. Love giveth to the least spiritual idea might, immortality, and goodness, which shine through all as the blossom shines through the bud. All the varied expressions of God reflect health, holiness, immortality — infinite Life, Truth, and Love.
(Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, Mary Baker Eddy, p. 518:13)
Laying down his life for a good deed, Mortal Man should find it again. Such acts bear their own justification, and are under the protection of the Most High.
(Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, Mary Baker Eddy, p. 436:12)
Whatever it is your duty to do, you can do without harm to yourself.
(Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, Mary Baker Eddy, p. 385:17–18)
We should become more familiar with good than with evil, and guard against false beliefs as watchfully as we bar our doors against the approach of thieves and murderers. We should love our enemies and help them on the basis of the Golden Rule; but avoid casting pearls before those who trample them under foot, thereby robbing both themselves and others.
(Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, Mary Baker Eddy, p. 234:9)
Truth should, and does, drive error out of all selfhood. Truth is a two-edged sword, guarding and guiding. Truth places the cherub wisdom at the gate of understanding to note the proper guests. Radiant with mercy and justice, the sword of Truth gleams afar and indicates the infinite distance between Truth and error, between the material and spiritual, — the unreal and the real.
(Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, Mary Baker Eddy, p. 538:3)
God fashions all things, after His own likeness. Life is reflected in existence, Truth in truthfulness, God in goodness, which impart their own peace and permanence. Love, redolent with unselfishness, bathes all in beauty and light. The grass beneath our feet silently exclaims, “The meek shall inherit the earth.” The modest arbutus sends her sweet breath to heaven. The great rock gives shadow and shelter. The sunlight glints from the church-dome, glances into the prison-cell, glides into the sick-chamber, brightens the flower, beautifies the landscape, blesses the earth. Man, made in His likeness, possesses and reflects God’s dominion over all the earth. Man and woman as coexistent and eternal with God forever reflect, in glorified quality, the infinite Father-Mother God.
(Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, Mary Baker Eddy, p. 516:9)
The understanding of Truth and Love, the Principle which works out the ends of eternal good and destroys both faith in evil and the practice of evil, leads to the discernment of the divine idea.
(Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, Mary Baker Eddy, p. 561:1)
Jesus demonstrated the inability of corporeality, as well as the infinite ability of Spirit, thus helping erring human sense to flee from its own convictions and seek safety in divine Science.
(Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, Mary Baker Eddy, p. 494:15–19 Jesus)
Step by step will those who trust Him find that “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.”
(Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, Mary Baker Eddy, p. 444:10)
Security for the claims of harmonious and eternal being is found only in divine Science.
(Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, Mary Baker Eddy, p. 232:7)
HYMNS
Call the Lord thy sure salvation, / Rest beneath th’ Almighty’s shade; / In His secret habitation / Dwell, nor ever be dismayed.
He shall charge His angel legions / Watch and ward o’er thee to keep, / Though thou walk through hostile regions, / Though in desert wilds thou sleep.
There no tumult can alarm thee, / Thou shalt dread no hidden snare; / Guile nor violence shall harm thee / In eternal safeguard there.
(Christian Science Hymnal, No. 33)
O’er waiting harpstrings of the mind / There sweeps a strain, / Low, sad, and sweet, whose measures bind / The power of pain,
And wake a white-winged angel throng / Of thoughts, illumed / By faith, and breathed in raptured song, / With love perfumed.
Then His unveiled, sweet mercies show / Life’s burdens light. / I kiss the cross, and wake to know / A world more bright.
And o’er earth’s troubled, angry sea / I see Christ walk, / And come to me, and tenderly, / Divinely talk.
Thus Truth engrounds me on the rock, / Upon Life’s shore, / ’Gainst which the winds and waves can shock, / Oh, nevermore!
From tired joy and grief afar, / And nearer Thee,— / Father, where Thine own children are, / I love to be.
My prayer, some daily good to do / To Thine, for Thee; / An offering pure of Love, whereto / God leadeth me.
(Christian Science Hymnal, No. 256)
Put on the whole armor of pure consecration, / The breastplate of righteousness valiantly gird, / With shield of true faith, and the helmet of salvation— / The sword of the Spirit is God’s mighty Word!
For His is the greatness, the power and the glory, / The victory His, when for succor we call; / His majesty shines in creation’s wondrous story, / And He is exalted as head over all!
(Christian Science Hymnal, No. 292)
